Local Workforce Investment Board (LWIB) Background
The basic function of the Board of Directors is to assure public funds invested in workforce development issues address the needs of employers and job seekers in South Central Kansas. WIA mandates that a majority of local board members come from the private sector. Representatives from various community based organizations and educations institutions that provide job-training services are also required to serve on local boards. There are 38 voting members of the Alliance, and the full Board meets quarterly. Due to the large size of the Board, most of its work is done through a combination of standing Committees and ad hoc Taskforces. There are five Committees of the Board that meet monthly: Executive, Operations, Finance, Youth Council and PACES Leadership. The daily operations of the Workforce Alliance are carried out by a professional staff, led by and Executive Director who serves at the pleasure of the Board.
