The Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas Operates Workforce Centers in El Dorado, Wichita, and Wellington. Workforce Centers assist employers with labor exchange functions and assists job seekers with job searches and upskilling.  This position will be working in the correctional community and travel will be frequent in Sedgwick County with the occasional travel to other parts of the state.

Salary Range: $18.50-$22.50 per hour

Reports To: Varies

Home Office: Wichita Workforce Center

Hours: 7-6 M-Th; 8-12 F 40 hours per week

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION 

The Workforce Professional is responsible for assisting Workforce Center customers in identifying the most appropriate tools and resources available within the local workforce development system that match customers’ employment related needs; Workforce Center customers include employers and job seekers.   For employers, the Workforce Professional will assist in recruiting skilled workers and finding employment and training solutions to their business challenges.  For job seekers, the Workforce Professional will assist in developing appropriate plans of action to lead to completion of educational/training activities and obtaining/retaining employment.    The Workforce Professional will work with the partner agencies operating in the Local Area IV Workforce Centers to accomplish a seamless and integrated service delivery model. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 
    • Provide job seekers with a professional, warm, and inviting welcome
    • Assist other Workforce Center Teams with high volume activities, including check in, workshops, job fairs, and drop-in customer flow
    • Assess job seekers' skills and abilities and provide career guidance
    • Provide job seekers with labor market information and counsel them on demand occupations
    • Assist job seekers with program registration(s)
    • Conduct program eligibility
    • Assist  job seekers with resume development  
    • Refer job seekers to appropriate job openings  
    • May conduct some case management
    • Enroll/Refer job seekers in the many different services provided at the Workforce Centers
    • Provide job seekers with referrals to other partners and community agencies
    • Refer job seekers to the services available at the Workforce Centers and throughout the community
    • Work in coordination with other Workforce Center Teams to assist job seekers
    • Input services, case notes and outcomes into KansasWorks, Alliance Database (Geographic Solutions), WaitWhile, and any other tracking services/documents as instructed
    • Maintain monthly contact with job seekers assigned to the caseload
    • Develop and maintain an individual employment plan for each job seeker assigned to your case load
    • Complete and submit training paperwork for approvals
    • Assist job seekers with supportive services to remove barriers to employment and training
    • Coordinate with Fiscal the payment of client training (Occupational Skills Training, On The Job, Incumbent Worker) and supportive service invoices
    • Maintain individual training accounts and ensure obligations and payments are according to policy and are current
    • Facilitate or support the Workforce Center Workshops both onsite and remote
    • Participate as needed in off-site job fairs, career day events, workshops, seminars and other employment related activities
    • Maintain knowledge of Workforce Center Policy and Procedures
    • Attend Workforce Center training sessions as appropriate
    • Respond to job seekers emails, voice mails, and referrals with 48 business hours
    • Maintain customer confidentiality
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

                     

MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Baccalaureate degree or applicable Workforce Development Experience
  • Experience in case management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher
  • Proficient in electronic record keeping and maintenance
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with management, co-workers, partners, and the general public.
  • Punctual and maintain regular on-time attendance

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of workforce development programs and activities
  • Kansas WORKReady! Certificate
  • Bi-lingual

Work Environment:

A Workforce Professional will see customers through appointment (200%) and through drop in (80%).

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and operate general office equipment.

Will spend 80% of time working using a computer or other electronic device

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Most all work will be completed indoors in climate controlled office buildings.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
