Maintaining Stable Career Condition

Kenneth, an older veteran, was facing inconsistent income in his job as a caregiver. He entered the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program (HVRP) hoping to gain healthcare credentials to secure more sustainable employment.

Through the HVRP, Kenneth received resume and career guidance and enrolled in training aligned with his career goals. He also received housing assistance through the WIOA Adult program during his training, allowing him to remain focused on his goals. Kenneth earned certifications as both a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Certified Medication Aide (CMA).

With his new credentials and continued job-search support, Kenneth secured a full-time CMA position with Oxford Senior Living, earning $18.25/hour with benefits. He also began working biweekly shifts as a PRN CMA with Agape Home. As Kenneth transitioned into his new employment, he received assistance purchasing the required clothing for his new jobs and covering transportation costs to and from work.

Kenneth’s journey shows the impact that determination, targeted training, career guidance, and supportive services can have in achieving long-term stability.
